Biographical / Historical
A collection pertaining to the Hunter-Townsend family with some items concerning the Weagley family of Bristol Borough, Pennsylvania. The original donor, Wendy Anne (Townsend) Vaillancourt’s family has significant history in Bristol, her mother and Uncle (Karl Townsend) having taught for many years in the Bristol Borough School District. Wendy’s parents were Dorothy Anne (Hunter) and Jacob Townsend. Her maternal grandparents Harold and Ellen Francis (Singley) Hunter lived at 117 Mulberry Street. Their neighbors, Marburg and Gertrude Weagley, were godparents to Dorothy, who inherited many of their belongings.
Wendy’s paternal grandparents were Jacob and Helen (Rufe) Townsend, who owned the Keystone Hotel in Bristol. Marburg Weagley, as well as Wendy’s father and grandfather Townsend, were all masons and held many positions.

Physical Characteristics and Technical Requirements
Farmers National Bank items are very fragile (some of the oldest in the collection)—handle with care.
Custodial History
Collection was donated by Wendy Anne (Townsend) Vaillancourt to Harold and Carol Mitchener (Grundy Archive volunteers) and the Bucks County Historical Foundation. As BCHF is a non-collecting agency, they donated ownership of these items to the Margaret R. Grundy Memorial Library in 2018. Items were kept in the home of Dorothy Anne (Hunter) and Jacob Townsend, who were the original donor (Wendy’s) parents, passing the items on to her. Donor mentioned items concerning the masons from her father and grandfather, but she kept these for her son who was looking to join the masons in Connecticut at the time.
