Bristol History Photograph Collection
Scope and Contents
The collection consists of eleven boxes of miscellaneous photographs of various dates, creators, and conditions, all pertaining to local Bristol history. Some photographs are copies with the status of the original prints and their provenance being unknown.
Photographs within this collection have been digitized and published to the Digital Collections website. Any that are photocopies have not been included online for publication, but can be viewed in the physical collection.

Biographical / Historical
Photographs in this collection were donated to the library at various points in time before official accession records were implemented to the library’s Historical Collection. Most original donors and creators of the photographs are unknown with no original arrangement. Over several years, archive volunteers compiled the photographs and arranged them for research use originally in labeled binders by subject. Most inscriptions and interpretations on the back of photographs were created by said volunteers.

Arrangement
Items within each series have no official arrangement. Most items are labeled as they were by the volunteers who compiled the collection and identified the photographs through the original donors or their own study of Bristol’s history. Some items were labelled by their creator unless no title was given; in which case the title was supplied by the collecting volunteers or the Archivist for accessibility based on the content of the item. Archivist-assigned labels are in brackets to identify these given titles.

Processing Information
The collection was compiled and organized by archive volunteers in 29 subject-based, three-ringed binders. Initial draft of finding aid, file list, and additional physical processing conducted by Archivist Eric Walerko 2017-2018. Edits and final draft made by Archivist Lillian Kinney, 2019-2020. Items rehoused from record cartons to document boxes by Archivist Lillian Kinney, 2021.
