General
Back of woodcut reads: "Bristol Fire Company (No. 1), Wood & Market Streets, Historic Bristol, PA. This was the borough's first fire company, founded in 1857 as 'Bristol Fire Company.' It was erected as a two-story building at the corner of Wood and Market Streets in what was later designated the borough's First Ward. A bell, purchased from the Union Street Station in Philadelphia in 1873, was installed on the roof. Permission was granted to the Borough to build a third floor on the fire house for use as Council Chambers in 1875. This was the first fire company in town to have a motorized fire apparatus. A new engine room was added to the original building in 1973 and is not shown in this rendering. - My Home Towne, Inc., 301-223-5914, 2001" [artist signature illegible].
